The Ogun State chapter of the ACCORD Party has petitioned the Commissioner of Police, alleging that an individual, Otunba Babatunde Olushola Sebanjo, is falsely presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
In a petition dated July 6, 2026, and acknowledged by the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on July 8, 2026, the party accused Sebanjo of embarking on depicting his governorship ambition across various platforms and claiming to be the party’s standard-bearer without the knowledge, approval or authorization of its leadership.
The petition, signed by the Ogun State Chairman of ACCORD, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, maintained that the party had already produced its authentic governorship candidate, Alhaji Agbongbonakala Olaniyi Okewole, during its primary election held on May 29, 2026.
According to the party, the primary election was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and police officers from the Adatan Police Station, making the outcome valid and legitimate.
The petition stated that Okewole “is, and remains the authentic governorship candidate of the party” for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
The party further declared that Sebanjo is unknown to its membership in Ogun State and has never been recognised, nominated or endorsed as its governorship candidate.
It alleged that despite this, Sebanjo has continued to portray himself in public and on different platforms as the ACCORD governorship candidate, a development it said was misleading members of the public and creating confusion within the state’s political landscape.
The party also alleged that a former Ogun State Chairman of ACCORD, Mr. Adebisi Adewale Ganiyu, who it claimed had been expelled from the party, was aiding Sebanjo in presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate.
Describing the development as capable of causing public deception, the party urged the police to investigate the allegations and determine whether any criminal offences had been committed.
“We respectfully request your office to investigate the allegations and take whatever legal actions against any suspected criminal activity around this matter to avert a breakdown of law and order,” the petition read.
The party also assured the police of its readiness to provide additional information and cooperate fully with investigators to facilitate the probe.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no public response from Otunba Babatunde Olushola Sebanjo or Mr. Adebisi Adewale Ganiyu regarding the allegations contained in the petition.
