The Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) in Ogun State, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, has declared that the movement is mobilising support to deliver no fewer than 60,000 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

Akintunde made the declaration on Saturday during a strategic meeting of the movement held in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He also reiterated the movement’s commitment to expanding its youth and student solidarity programme before the end of the month as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the movement has continued to witness remarkable growth across the state, attracting support from different communities and political stakeholders.

He commended members of the State Working Committee, apex leaders, local government coordinators, youth leaders, and other members for their dedication and commitment to the movement’s objectives.

“We gathered here today to review our progress, strategise for the future, and unveil our plans for students and youths across Ogun State. We are also preparing a major empowerment programme for our members while sustaining our ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration and voter mobilisation drive.

“I am pleased to announce that the Yayi Progressives Movement has successfully facilitated the registration of more than 12,000 voters as part of our preparations for the 2027 general elections. This achievement represents another significant milestone in our commitment to democratic participation and grassroots mobilisation.

“The Yayi Progressives Movement has continued to position itself as one of the emerging grassroots political mobilisation platforms in Ogun State, with a strong focus on youth inclusion, voter education, membership expansion, and active participation in the democratic process.

“Through our sustained community engagement and strategic mobilisation, the movement is committed to building a broad-based support network capable of contributing meaningfully to the electoral success of the All Progressives Congress across the state.

“Today, YPM has grown to more than 44,000 registered members across Ogun State, with the figure increasing daily through our local government coordinators as the PVC registration exercise continues. This steady growth reflects the confidence people have in our vision and our determination to build a stronger political movement that will positively impact the future of Ogun State,” Akintunde said.

Speaking at the meeting, the State Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, said YPM had evolved from the merger of several political support groups into one formidable grassroots movement.

Kaka credited the organisation’s progress to the visionary leadership of its convener and the collective commitment of members across the state.

“YPM will continue to champion unity, grassroots empowerment, political participation, and inclusive leadership while working to consolidate support for Senator Solomon Adeola and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State.

“I am delighted by the remarkable progress we are witnessing. YPM has grown beyond expectations and continues to attract supporters from every part of Ogun State. Our increasing membership reflects the confidence people have in the movement, and I appreciate our Convener and every member whose dedication has brought us this far,” Kaka said.

Also speaking, former two-term member of the House of Representatives and one of the movement’s apex leaders, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, urged members to remain united and committed to the ideals of the organisation.

He commended the leadership of Akintunde, Kaka, and other officials for sustaining the movement’s growth and called on members to continue working together in pursuit of its collective goals.

The meeting also witnessed the defection of three political groups to the Yayi Progressives Movement. They include Women in Politics from Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, the Idege Group from Ogun East Senatorial District, and the Alhaji Mutty Group from Ogun East Senatorial District.

The groups were received alongside hundreds of their supporters, while the convener directed all local government coordinators to commence the integration and documentation of the new members.

Leaders and coordinators at the meeting reaffirmed their resolve to intensify consultations, expand the movement’s presence across all 20 local government areas, and mobilise more eligible voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
