A group of teachers in Ogun State under the aegis of Yayi Teachers has endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, insisting that its decision was voluntary and based on his contributions to the education sector.
The endorsement was contained in a statement jointly signed by the State General Coordinator of the group, Comrade Sunday Odunaro, and the State Secretary General, Mr. Taiwo Olusola Increase, in response to allegations by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that teachers in the state were being compelled to support the senator.
The group, which said it has over 15,000 members across Ogun State’s 20 local government areas, maintained that its members were exercising their constitutional right to freely associate and support a candidate of their choice.
According to the statement, the association was formed five years ago and adopted Senator Adeola from its inception because of what it described as his “outstanding and unparalleled” contributions to education in Ogun State through constituency projects and legislative interventions.
The teachers’ group claimed that the senator has facilitated the construction of 87 classroom blocks, 56 staff rooms and four ultra-modern libraries across the state, alongside the provision of furniture and textbooks to improve learning conditions in public schools.
It also credited Adeola with facilitating the construction of 13 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres and eight skills acquisition centres, as well as the training of thousands of students and teachers in ICT, with laptops reportedly distributed to participants after the training.
The statement further highlighted what it described as the senator’s support for tertiary education, claiming that he facilitated 2,636 scholarships worth N200,000 each and 9,894 bursaries of N100,000 each for Ogun students studying in higher institutions across Nigeria.
It also noted the donation of minibuses to tertiary institutions and credited Adeola with sponsoring legislation that upgraded the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.
The group also praised the senator for allegedly paying examination fees for 2,137 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates in 2026 and sponsoring the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration of more than 7,000 Ogun students over the years.
Rejecting allegations of coercion, the teachers described the claims as false, insisting that their endorsement of the senator was voluntary and based on what they considered his commitment to educational development in the state.
