In a deeply emotional visit to Jos on Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu consoled grieving families following the brutal killings in Angwan Rukuba, declaring that no financial compensation could ever make up for the loss of a loved one.
Standing before mourners, Tinubu addressed a heartbroken mother, Favour, who lost her son Ayuba in the violence that rocked Jos North Local Government Area.
Referencing a viral video that captured her anguish, the President said, “I know the pain… but only God can give you joy and comfort,” in a moment that underscored the human toll of the tragedy.
The attack, which occurred during Palm Sunday, left nearly 28 people dead across Angwan Rukuba and nearby communities. Tinubu described the killings as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Arriving in Jos amid heightened tension, the President was received by Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and other top officials. He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims, while emphasizing that material aid cannot undo the devastation.
“No amount of money can pay all of you back,” Tinubu said. “The best solution is for Jos to return to the peace we once knew.”
He also directed security agencies to intensify intelligence operations and improve rapid response strategies to prevent further bloodshed. At the same time, Tinubu cautioned against framing the violence along religious lines, warning that such narratives could inflame tensions in already fragile communities.
The visit highlights growing concern over security in Plateau State, as residents mourn loved ones and call for lasting solutions to recurring violence.
