Well coordinated predawn attàcks by the dreaded Unknown Gunmen (UGM) on three communities in Imo State on Friday, July 25, have left nine villagers dead and about a dozen others with injuries.
The gunmen in their numbers launched the gruesome attacks carried on Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno communities all in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of the state, rudely rupturing the peace of the villagers, and leaving blood, deaths and sorrow behind.
It was learnt that the gunmen stormed the communities and opened fire on the residents, taking down about 9 persons and injuring many others. Trending videos showed corpses of the victims lying on the floor and drenched in their own blo0d while a background voice said nine corpses of persons felled by the gunmen’s búllets could be seen on the floor.
The Imo State Police Command has confirmedthe attack carried out by unknown gunmen in Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA.
The state Commissioner of police, described the attack as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable. He said that the Command had deployed adequate operational and intelligence asset to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, ostensibly to bring them to justice.
He added that the tactical unit intense combing of the affected areas and affirmed that the situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been taken to forestall further attacks and restore lasting peace in the region.
While expressing heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, CP Aboki Danjuma prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured. He also extended his condolences to the bereaved and encouraged them to remain strong during this difficult time.
The Imo State Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
