The Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commissioned a newly constructed office facility at Olorunda, provided by the Orunda of Olorunda, His Royal Highness Oba Dr. Joshua Olusegun Phillips-Ogunsola, as part of efforts to strengthen the Agency’s operational presence and community engagement in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The facility was commissioned on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by traditional rulers, security agencies and other stakeholders in the community.
According to a statement issued by the NDLEA Ogun State Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASN Haris A. Musa, the facility was provided to support the Command’s operations and deepen collaboration between the Agency and the Olorunda community.
The statement said the event was attended by the representative of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Oladipupo Bakre, the Divisional Police Officer in Olorunda; the Officer Commanding the Army Base, Olorunda, MW Shuaibu U; as well as representatives of other security agencies.
Speaking at the commissioning, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola said the facility was constructed out of his commitment to the anti-drug campaign and his determination to support the NDLEA in protecting residents from the harmful effects of illicit drugs.
The traditional ruler commended the Ogun State Command for its dedication to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking, stressing the need for communities to provide the Agency with the necessary support to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
In his remarks, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Commander Tijjani Rabe, expressed appreciation to the monarch and the people of Olorunda for providing the facility.
Rabe described the gesture as a significant demonstration of community ownership and support for the Agency’s drug control efforts.
The State Commander said the Command would sustain effective operations in the area and remain committed to protecting residents from the consequences of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
He also emphasised that the fight against illicit drugs could not be won by the NDLEA alone, stressing the importance of sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions and members of the public.
Rabe said effective drug control required a collaborative approach involving timely information sharing and coordinated action among relevant stakeholders.
The State Commander disclosed that NDLEA officers had already been deployed to the area to commence operations. He charged the personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
The commissioning ceremony featured the hoisting of the Nigerian and NDLEA flags, while an Award of Appreciation and a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) banner were presented to Oba Phillips-Ogunsola in recognition of his support for the campaign against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The NDLEA said the development further demonstrated the importance of community participation and institutional collaboration in strengthening efforts to combat illicit drugs across Ogun State.
