At least three mortuary attendants in the suburb of Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State have escaped lynching by enraged youths who were spoiling to take them down over the missing testicle of a man deposited in the facility where they are staffers.
The frightening incident occurred on Monday, March 31st when the relatives of the deceased came to retrieve the corpse.
According Vanguard, a family who had deposited their son’s remains at the facility had gone to retrieve him for burial when one of their daughters insisted that the corpse must be undressed for close scrutiny first before leaving the mortuary.
Following the request, the corpse, which was already dressed and encased in a coffin, was eventually undressed but upon examination, one of the testicles was found missing. The bizarre discovery allegedly angered youths of the surrounding communities who had accompanied the family to the morgue.
A source who witnessed the incident said the attendants attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended by the irate youths.
” We don’t know that this mortuary is involved in such evil business; people have been suspecting him. It is an abomination in Igbo land to sever the body part of a dead person.
“Now, we have seen what he has done and why his business is flourishing. He was operating his mortuary business in that abandoned filling station. He and his attendants will answer for their crimes.”
However, the state police command was yet to comment on this development as of the time of filing this report.
