Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina have won the 2022 Qatar World Cup on penalties.
The team scored two goals in first half but France equalised with a brace from Mbappe.
Messi appeared to have had the last laugh with a third goal until Mbappe scored a hat-trick via penalty.
Both teams had chances to win in extra time but the game stretched to penalties where Argentina scored four and France lost two.
Argentina had drawn 3-3 against France after 120 minutes at Lusail Stadium.
Messi and Angel di Maria put La Albiceleste 2-0 up in the first half, but Kylian Mbappe scored a brace in the second half to force the game into extra time.
However, Messi scored for Argentina in 108 minutes before Mbappe completed his hat-trick as he netted a late extra-time second-half goal to force the game into a penalty shoot-out.
The Les Blues ended up losing 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out against Argentina.
