The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council has taken a firm stance following brazen assault on a journalist and member of the Union, Olajide Osoba by supposed students and members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun State.
Responding to unwarranted attack on Journalist Osoba at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, venue of the 2025 May Day celebration, the leadership of Ogun NUJ has ordered a temporary ban on coverage of all activities by the NANS until a thorough investigation is conducted.
The decision was announced after reports surfaced detailing the assault, which raised serious concerns over the safety and security of journalists while performing their duties.
In a statement by Bunmi Adigun,
Secretary, NUJ Ogun State Council, the body condemned condemned the assault and called for immediate accountability for those responsible.
The NUJ leadership emphasized that the safety of journalists is paramount and vowed to protect the interests of its members.
The leadership also urged NANS to cooperate in the investigation and ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
