The Oyo state government has confirmed the explosion that rocked Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, urging residents to remain calm.
The explosion which struck the city on on Tuesday night sent a wave of fear and apprehension across Ibadan as shell – shocked residents grapple with uncertainty over the source and the motive behind it.
The Daily Crucible gathered that the blast occurred around past 7:00p.m, shook several houses and caused damage to structures at multiple places in the city.
Unofficial source said the explosion happened precisely at Adeyi avenue area of seedy Bodija, adding that it’s not yet clear yet what caused the explosion.
The source added that several casualties have been recorded in the explosion which, it claimed, affected no fewer than 30 buildings.
Governor Seyi Makinde – led government in a statement Tuesday on ‘X’, confirmed the blast, stating that security agencies have swung into action to unravel the source of the explosion.
The statement reads, “The Oyo State Government is aware of reports of an explosion in Ibadan.
“Residents are urged to remain calm as security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident.”
Similarly, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in a statement said, “Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.
“There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in the full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident.
“All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion.
“His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.”
