A frightening dimension crept into local government elections in Ogun State on Saturday with the alleged arrest of Hon. Adeleye Lukman, the Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Hon Adeleye was reportedly taken away from Ibefun in Odogbolu Local Government area of Ogun State, while exercising his civic duty yesterday by individuals whose identities remained unknown.
The Daily Crucible gathered that his arrest and detention by a yet to – be – ascertained arm of the nation’s security agencies, was allegedly at the instance of a highly influential individual.
The reason for the arrest remained unknown as at 10pm on Saturday.
It was learnt that members of his political party visited security formations in Ijebu area, including army Barracks in Ilese, looking for Adeleye.
The Director General of his Campaign organization, Hon Olujimi Oloja said Hon. Adeleye Lukman and others who were also arrested alongside the House Minority leader, may not be set free until the conclusion of the election with announcement of results and declaration of winners.
As the Minority Leader, Hon. Adeleye Lukman has been a vocal advocate for community development and education. His legislative interests focus on education, and he has served in various party organs, including as Local Government Organizing Secretary for the PDP.
