ASABA: A former Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has emerged as the 14th Asagba of Asaba, Delta State.
The Asagba-in-Council announced his selection as the most qualified among the 10 candidates that vied for the traditional stool of Asagba of Asaba which was made vacant with the passing of Prof. Joseph Chike Edozien in February 2024 at 99 years old.
Azinge hails from Ugbomanta quarters and it is its turn to produce the next Asagba.
The Ochendo Ahaba (Regent), Anthony Edozien, who announced this on Sunday, August 18, at the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba at Ezenei quarters, Asaba, the state capital, said the outcome of the the selection process followed the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979 as applicable to Delta State.
“Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has been selected among 10 contenders after due process.
“He will be coronated in due course,” he said.
Other contestants for the revered office beside Prof. Azinge, are Tony Ogugua Konwea, Prof. Emmanuel Onwuka and Ogbuechi Chinedu Esealuka, among others.
