Detectives have retrieved a two – month old baby stolen from his parents in Oko Oba area of Lagos State during naming ceremony for him by the ‘new parents.’
The detectives also arrested five suspects in connection to the theft of the baby who was trafficked across other buyers before he was recovered from the final buyer.
The Daily Crucible reports that baby was stolen on June 11 by a woman identified as Gloria Sunday and recovered during his naming ceremony by Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam, the final buyer of the male child.
According to the police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, detectives of Oko-oba Division arrested the five suspects involved in the trafficking operation following a report from the mother of the missing boy.
Hundeyin who made this known in a statement on Saturday, July 28, said the boy passed through several buyers before he was recovered.
“Detectives swung into action following report by the mother of the child that one Gloria Sunday absconded with her son to an unknown destination on July 11, 2024.
“Detectives swung into action which led to the arrest of Gloria Sunday whom during interrogation confessed to selling the baby for Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) to one Pastor Peter Udoh ‘m’.
“Pastor Udoh who was subsequently arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun State, admitted reselling the child for One Million, Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦1,450,000) to one Loretta Nelson ‘f’ who was then also apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos.
“She confessed to selling the baby for Two Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦2,350,000).
“Further investigations led to the arrest of the final buyers of the baby, Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam,during the naming ceremony of the stolen child. The suspects will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation,” Hundeyin said.
