Nigerians have been urged to be vigilant and request more from their leaders by holding them accountable and demanding transparency, accountability and good governance.
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Toyin Amuzu, TA, gave the advice as Nigerians mark the June 12 democracy day.
Chief Amuzu who expressed concern over the current state of the nation’s democracy, noted that the Country has reached a stage where individuals seem to lack ideologies and integrity.
He also lamented the trend of opposition members decamping to the ruling party, either by coercion or willingly, saying it undermines the democratic process.
As Nigerians celebrate June 12, Chief Amuzu paid tribute to the sacrifices of Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and other martyrs who fought for democracy.
“Their struggles and sacrifices will never be forgotten. Chief Abiola’s mandate was annulled, but his legacy lives on, reminding us of the importance of democratic governance and the need to protect our rights,” he said.
Chief Amuzu emphasized that Nigerians must learn from the past and work towards a better future.
“As we honor the memory of Chief Abiola and other heroes of our democracy, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals of democracy and good governance. We must demand more from our leaders and hold them accountable for their actions,” he added.
The people’s politician and Asiwaju Leragun Egba urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and demand transparency, responsive and quality governance from their leaders, stressing “Only then can we realize our full potential and build a nation that is truly prosperous and just for all.”
Chief Amuzu’s message is a call to action for all Nigerians to demand good governance from political leaders as the Nation celebrates June 12.
