National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rauf Aregbesola, has told supporters that he has remained faithful to his wife, Sherifat, since their marriage.
The former Osun State governor made the disclosure on Saturday while addressing party supporters at an ADC rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba, Aregbesola said his decision was borne out of his fear of God and a personal commitment.
He said he had presented his fidelity to God as part of a prayer point for divine intervention in his political journey.
“Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife,” he said.
The former minister added, “I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house,” in an apparent reference to ADC’s ambition to take over Osun Government House.
Aregbesola, who governed Osun between 2010 and 2018, is currently the national secretary of ADC. The party is fielding Najeem Folasayo Salaam as its candidate for the August 15, 2026 poll.
The governorship election will see incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party seek re-election, while Bola Oyebamiji will fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
ADC has in recent weeks intensified campaigns across the state as it seeks to unseat the incumbent administration.
