Iran’s Drone–Missile Barrage Exposes US Soldiers To New Risks At Gulf Bases

Iran’s Drone–Missile Barrage Exposes US Soldiers To New Risks At Gulf Bases

American soldiers stationed across the Gulf are facing a dangerous shift in battlefield threats as Iran intensifies waves of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military facilities and allied infrastructure.

This is coming as Iran’s military also called on civilians across the Middle East to report what it described as the hiding places of United States troops, claiming American forces have abandoned their bases amid ongoing hostilities.

Recent data from regional security reports and military briefings indicate that Iran and its allied militias have launched hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones toward Gulf states—including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait—since the conflict escalated in late February 2026, according to Military.com.

While many of the incoming projectiles have been intercepted by air defence systems, several have penetrated defenses, striking U.S. bases, logistics hubs, and critical infrastructure, causing casualties and material damage.

One of the clearest indicators of the growing danger is the rising toll on American personnel. Early in the conflict, at least one U.S. service member died from injuries sustained in Iranian attacks, with earlier reports putting total fatalities from initial strikes at multiple troops.

Military analysts say the threat environment has evolved rapidly. Unlike traditional ballistic missile warfare, Iran’s strategy relies heavily on low-cost, high-volume drone swarms combined with missile strikes, overwhelming even advanced Western air defence systems. The sheer scale of launches—such as over 1,100 drones intercepted in the UAE alone—underscores the intensity of the campaign.

The attacks are not limited to isolated incidents. Iran has repeatedly targeted U.S. assets embedded within Gulf states, expanding strikes to include airports, oil facilities, and urban centers, raising fears of a wider regional spillover, according to multiple media reports, including The Washington Post and The Guardian, prompting Gulf countries want  to demand end to the middle East conflict.

According to recent developments, Tehran has rejected ceasefire proposals and continues retaliatory strikes, including attacks across Gulf states and threats to vital shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Urges Civilians to Report ‘Fleeing’ U.S. Troops as War Claims and Counterclaims Intensify

However, Iran’s military has called on civilians across the Middle East to report what it described as the hiding places of United States troops, claiming American forces have abandoned their bases amid ongoing hostilities.

In a video statement, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, alleged that U.S. military installations in the region had been destroyed, forcing troops to flee.
“Given that American bases in the Middle East have been destroyed, commanders and soldiers have fled and taken refuge in hideouts outside the bases. We are looking for them,” he said.

Zolfaghari appealed directly to residents, urging them to assist Iranian forces. “We urge people of the region to report their hiding places and at the same time for their own security,” he added.
Iranian authorities also reiterated their long-standing demand for the removal of American forces from the region, declaring that “victory comes from God.”

The development comes as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate, with both sides trading sharp rhetoric and asserting battlefield advantage. While Iran declared victory on Thursday, Washington had made similar claims a day earlier.

U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed opposing narratives as “fake news,” insisting the conflict had already been decided in America’s favour.

“This war has been won. The only ones who want to keep it going are fake news,” Trump said in a video shared by the U.S. Department of State on X.

He also criticised media reports, singling out The New York Times for suggesting the U.S. was not winning. Trump argued that Iran lacked the military capacity to compete, citing America’s naval and air superiority.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that sustained Iranian missile and drone attacks have forced thousands of U.S. troops to abandon traditional bases and relocate to temporary sites, including hotels and office buildings, as the conflict enters its fourth week.

According to U.S. officials, the strikes—launched in retaliation for joint U.S.-Israeli operations—have severely damaged key installations, disrupted command structures, and complicated military coordination.

The conflict, which began on February 28, 2026, escalated sharply after strikes reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with other senior officials.

Despite growing international concern and calls for a ceasefire, prospects for diplomacy remain uncertain. Trump suggested both sides were open to negotiations, saying a deal could be reached soon or the bombing would continue.

However, Tehran rejected the claim, insisting the United States was “negotiating with itself,” underscoring the deepening divide as the conflict rages on.

Gulf governments warn that continued aggression could embolden Iran and further endanger U.S. forces stationed in the region.

Despite heavy U.S. and allied strikes that have reportedly degraded parts of Iran’s military infrastructure, officials acknowledge that Tehran retains significant drone and missile capabilities, allowing it to sustain pressure on American troops and regional allies.
The Wall Street Journal

Security experts now warn that U.S. forces in the Gulf are entering a phase of persistent, asymmetric threat, where even well-defended bases remain vulnerable to cheap, hard-to-detect aerial attacks.

As the conflict drags on with no clear diplomatic breakthrough, the risk calculus for American troops is shifting—from conventional battlefield exposure to continuous, unpredictable aerial assault, redefining modern warfare in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
