Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has spoken from his confinement at the Kuje Prison, saying he is fine but still in custody.
This came barely 24 hours after his arrest in Abuja on Monday over #FreeNnamdiKanu protest.
Ejimakor disclosed his status in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to assure supporters of his safety and let them also his concern about how his case was handled by the police.
He wondered why the authorities deliberately took his case to a certain court in Kuje, leaving any of the other available Magistrate court in the city.
“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje prison. The Magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way.
“For context: Keep in mind that they bypassed several Magistrate courts in town and headed to this one in Kuje,” he stated.
Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, were among a dozen people arrested on Monday during the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, which was led by human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
