Three children have been found dead inside the home of a female native doctor in Umuduba village, Ideani Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victims, aged between 6 and 15 years, were discovered lifeless in the residence of the woman widely known in the area as _Ezenwanyi_, meaning Prophetess of Goddess.
According to community sources, a fourth child was found alive and rescued through the intervention of the President General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, alongside the Divisional Police Officer, Ogidi Division. The child was rushed to a hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
The native doctor was later arrested by police operatives who arrived at the scene with the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Mr. Stanley Nkwoka.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, August 5, the Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command had launched a full-scale investigation.
“The command has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the children,” Ikenga stated.
He confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody in connection with the deaths.
Ikenga extended the command’s condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathized with the Ideani community over the tragedy.
He urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
“We appeal to the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and allow the Police to conclude their investigations,” he added.
The incident has sparked outrage in Ideani and across Idemili North, with community leaders calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances that led to the children’s deaths.
