No fewer than nine people, largely security men, were killed when gunmen invaded a night club in Anambra state.
The midnight invasion and attendant killings also threw the area into a state of tension and apprehension.
The attack happened at Oba, Idemili south local government area of Anambra state on Sunday night December 10.
It was learnt that the hoodlums who drove in two hilux vehicles stormed the club house, shot sporadically and laid siege to it for minutes.
The Daily Crucible gathered that the attackers stormed the club ostensibly to pick the owner of the club house, which the Vigilance security men attached to the place attempted to resist but died in the process.
“And in anger, the gunmen opened fire on the security operatives and killed all of them including one police man and left.
“Before they left, they beheaded one of their victims and cut off the leg of another.”
Anambra state police public relations officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the attack, saying they would not go unpunished, stressing those killed were the operatives of the local vigilante in Oba in a nightclub.
Ikenga said: “Yes, the incident happened. Our men were alerted and they quickly moved to the scene of the incident, but the gunmen had already fled.
“Our men have recovered the bodies of the vigilante operatives who were fatally wounded, while others sustained various degrees of injury.
“We have also fully deployed our men to Oba, and operation is ongoing. So far, no arrest has been made,” he said.
