Oyo State government has demolished a building belonging to Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, one of the alleged sponsors of Saturday’s attack on the government secretariat.
The Daily Crucible reports that some people who claimed to be Yoruba nation agitators had on Saturday stormed the Secretariat in a bid to take over the House of Assembly.
The government has now taken action by demolishing the building where Onitiri-Abiola allegedly declared Yoruba nation Republic.
The building, it was gathered, was demolished on Wednesday.
On Thursday, April 18, the state government confirmed the demolition, saying it obtained the necessary court orders before pulling down the building.
The structure, a storey-building located at Toye Oyeshola Street, Shahari area, Boluwaji, Oluyole local government area, Ibadan was demolished by the state government after it was found to be the operational base of the Yoruba Nation agitators.
The Oyo Government armed with a court order, hurried earth moving equipment to the address and demolished the structure.
The commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo disclosed this on Thursday.
He said on the strength of the order, the government has taken over the building.
According to him, the action was taken based on a High Court Order to the effect that the building should be demolished.
Also, Fatai Owoseni, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, confirmed it to newsmen earlier on Wednesday.
Owoseni said, “You can get more details from the Commissioner of Police”.
