The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a special enforcement operation tagged “Operation Guduma” aimed at cracking down on the use of fake diplomatic number plates, overloading, and other dangerous road practices across the state.
The operation, which began on Monday, May 18, 2026, is being carried out in compliance with directives from the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja and will run until May 22 across major highways and strategic corridors in Ogun State.
Speaking during the launch in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, said the exercise was designed to improve road safety and enforce strict compliance with vehicle registration and traffic regulations.
The operation is being supervised by Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) JO Asaolu, who was assigned by the Corps Marshal to oversee the intervention in collaboration with the Ogun State Command.
According to the Command, enforcement teams deployed for the exercise will focus on identifying and prosecuting motorists using counterfeit diplomatic number plates, while legitimately issued but faded plates will not be affected.
The FRSC also said the operation would target overloading of passengers and goods, dangerous mix-loading involving the simultaneous transportation of passengers and cargo in unsafe conditions, as well as the movement of improperly secured containers without safety locks or twists.
The Command noted that these violations remain major contributors to fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.
Ogunjobi urged motorists, transport operators, and fleet managers to comply with traffic regulations, stressing that the Corps maintains zero tolerance for practices that endanger lives and property.
He assured members of the public that the enforcement exercise would be conducted professionally and in line with established FRSC operational procedures.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to safer roads and the reduction of traffic crashes through sustained enforcement and public safety interventions.
