The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has reopened the Sahad Stores in Abuja barely 24 hours it was temporarily sealed over alleged exploitative product prices.
Executive Vice Chairman, FCCPC, Adamu Abdullahi, in a statement on Saturday confirmed the reopening of the supermarket.
FCCPC had on Friday, February 16, sealed the stores following discrepancies in the manners it was fixing prices for products.
According to Abdullahi, the store displayed lower prices on shelves but was charging higher prices at checkout.
He described the act as “violations involving misleading pricing and lack of transparency.”
The FCCPC boss explained that exercising its authority under Section 18(f), it temporarily sealed the premises.
He, however, said that following a mutual understanding and commitment from Sahad Stores to implement transparent pricing practices, the store was reopened.
Meanwhile, Abdullahi urged businesses “to display transparent pricing information to empower consumers to make informed purchasing decisions, especially during challenging economic times.
He noted that the FCCPC is commitment to “combating all forms of exploitative or misleading practices that undermine consumer rights.”
