A roaming elephant from one of the government reserved forests in Ijebu East local Government Area of Ogun State has attacked a farmer, killing him in the process.
The wild animal wandered out of the reserved forest and gored the farmer identified as Musa Kalamu at Itasin-Imobi area in Ijebu East.
It was learnt that the horrific incident happened on Monday, when the wild elephant attacked and killed Mr. Kalamu.
Villagers said the elephant roamed into Kalamu’s farm, where it attacked him, leading to his death.
A trending video about the homicidal elephant showed the lifeless body of its victim – Kalamu.
The villagers could be heard in the video shouting “This is Kala, he was attacked by the elephants at Onitasin, you can see the marks of the attack all over his body with some part of his intestine outside, the government should please come to our aid, the problem with these elephants is too much in our community.”
They lamented that the animal had been a recurring risk to the community and farm in the last couple of years.
“This elephant keeps coming into our community to destroy our crops, damage our fishing nets, and now, it has taken a life,” a villager said.
However, the Itasin-Imobi residents are appealing to the State government to save them from future attacks and killings by elephants in its reserved forests.
The State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun who confirmed the tragic incident, said, “Yes, we are aware and we are already on our way to the community.”
Also, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed the elephants’ fatal attack on the villager – farmer.
“The DPO Ogbere received information from Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu who died on the way to the hospital.
“Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community,” Ogunlowo stated.
