The Department of State Services, DSS, has arraigned one Mubarak Abdullahi, also known as Sardaunan Samari, for allegedly circulating a fake document purportedly written by President Bola Tinubu to the President of the United States.
Abdullahi was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10, Kabala Doki, Kaduna, which ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kaduna.
President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a post late Monday.
He said the suspect, described as a supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was arrested on September 28 for sharing the fake document on his Facebook page with the caption “ATIKU IS COMING.”
According to Onanuga, Abdullahi admitted to sharing the document during investigation and apologised.
“Mubarak admitted to investigators that he shared the fake document and apologised for his actions. The contrition was not enough,” Onanuga said.
He added that the DSS has filed a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime and defamation against Abdullahi at the Federal High Court, Kaduna.
Onanuga said a date for his formal arraignment at the Federal High Court is yet to be fixed, but assured that the DSS will continue to demonstrate its capacity to trace those circulating misleading information online.
