Delta State Government has shut the Great Leaders International School, Ime-Obi, Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of the state following the recent case of defilement of a 4-year-old pupil allegedly committed by the proprietor of the school.
The State Ministry of Primary Education disclosed this on Friday, October 3 and condemned the incident.
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Augustine Oghoro, described the act as “wicked and barbaric.”
He wondered why a teacher who is supposed to be a key player in the upbringing of learners in his care should carry out such a despicable act.
The statement added that: “The state police command had already swung into action by arresting the suspect, the proprietor of the school , who will face deep consequences of his action to serve as a deterrent to others.”
The statement clarified that the Great Leaders International School was one of the unauthorised schools that had long been shut down by the state primary education ministry.
The Daily Crucible had earlier reported that the police have arrested the suspect.
In a related development, the state government warned parents to desist from storming schools to harass and assault teachers for disciplining their children and wards.
Permanent Secretary Augustine Oghoro, handed down the warning while reacting to the recent incident that happened in the public secondary school in Agbor where a parent attacked a teacher for disciplining his erring son and in the process, the teacher slumped and died afterwards.
Oghoro described the incident as unfortunate and condemnable, even as he flayed a similar incident that occurred at Ehwerhe Secondary School, Agbarho, on the October 19 where it was alleged that a group of students led by one Master Oyibo Precious and other students were causing problems for teachers and other students in the school.
