The Delta State Police Command has firmly dismissed allegations that a suspect died in custody at Ekpan Police Station, describing the claim as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to discredit its operations.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command refuted a publication by one Israel Joe, who alleged that an unnamed suspect died while in police detention, but the police insisted that no such incident occurred anywhere in the state.
According to the Command, the operation in question was a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts conducted on March 25 and 26, 2026, under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
It noted that the exercise led to the arrest of over 270 suspects across Ughelli and Warri, including suspected drug traffickers and wanted cultists, with significant quantities of illicit drugs recovered.
Police authorities clarified that all arrested individuals were properly screened, with those found not culpable released, while others remain in custody in good condition.
The Command stressed that no casualties were recorded during or after the operation.
Condemning the spread of what it described as reckless misinformation, the police warned that such narratives could mislead the public, erode trust in law enforcement, and hinder ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the state.
While acknowledging the importance of civic engagement, the Command cautioned individuals against using activism or social media platforms to disseminate unverified claims.
It warned that anyone found spreading false information about the police would face investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Commissioner of Police urged residents to disregard the report and rely on official channels for accurate information, assuring that the Command remains focused on maintaining peace, security, and professionalism across Delta State.
