The Cross River State Ministry of Health has confirmed that the lone COVID-19 patient at the state’s isolation centre is stable and responding well to treatment.
Speaking on Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, reassured the public that the patient remains in good condition. “As earlier communicated, the patient is responding to treatment and is in good condition,” he said.
The state government also pushed back against media reports claiming the emergence of 10 new cases with COVID-19 symptoms, describing the information as misleading and not aligned with official records.
In a statement, the ministry clarified that Cross River still has only one confirmed case, with no additional infections recorded.
Dr. Ayuk explained that the individuals mentioned in the reports are merely contacts identified through routine tracing efforts—not new or suspected cases.
The ministry added that none of these contacts is currently showing symptoms linked to COVID-19. It further explained that contacts are individuals who have been in close proximity to a confirmed case, while suspected cases are those displaying symptoms, and confirmed cases are those verified through laboratory testing.
All identified contacts have been placed under home isolation and are being monitored daily as a precaution.
Authorities emphasized that this measure is purely preventive and does not indicate new infections.
The state government reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged residents to rely on official updates, assuring that the situation remains fully under control.
