The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 48 out of 57 properties valued at about N212 billion and linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik delivered the ruling after granting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) application for the final forfeiture of the assets, while dismissing objections filed by Malami, members of his family and several companies that claimed ownership of the properties.
The judge held that the objections lacked merit, stressing that the central issue before the court was not the ownership of the assets but the legitimacy of the funds used to acquire them.
According to Justice Abdulmalik, the proceedings were aimed at determining whether the properties were purchased with lawfully obtained funds, rather than identifying their registered owners.
The forfeited assets are spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna states and comprise luxury hotels, residential duplexes, shopping plazas, warehouses, commercial units and housing estates acquired over several years.
The ruling marks a major victory for the EFCC in its asset recovery drive and reinforces the court’s position that unexplained wealth traced to unlawful sources is liable to forfeiture under Nigerian law.
The judgment follows the anti-graft agency’s investigations into the high-value properties, which it alleged were acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities. The court’s order means the forfeited assets will now become the property of the Federal Government.
The affected properties, including hotels and luxury homes initially seized by the EFCC through an interim forfeiture order. 48 of them will be handed over to the federal government following today’s court ruling.

5. Property No. 3 Rhine Street, Maitama, Abuja (Meethaq Hotels Limited, Maitama With 15 ROOMS), which was purchased in February 2018 at N430,000,000 (current value after rehabilitation is N12,950,000,000).
6. Plot No. 1241B, Asokoro District Zone (No. 11A Yakubu Gowon Crescent) AsokoroDistrict, which was purchased in July 2021 at N325,000,000.
7. Shop No. C82 Citiscape — Shariff Plaza, Plot 739 Cadastral Zone A07, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse Il, FCT, Abuja, which was purchased in March 2024 at N120,000,000.
