The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the controversial N800bn 2024 budget signed into law by the Rivers State Governor, Siminalaye Fubara.
Governor Fubara had in December 2023 presented the N800bn 2024 Appropriation Bill to a faction of the state House of Assembly, comprising four lawmakers who reportedly met at the Government Secretariat.
The four lawmakers were said to be loyal to Fubara and after the passage of the budget by them, the Governor subsequently signed it into law.
The Daily Crucible reports that the Rivers Assembly broke into factions following a alleged move by 27 lawmakers loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike to impeach Fubara.
In nullifying the Fubara’s 2024 Appropriation Bill, the presiding judge, James Kolawole Omotosho, held that everything done by the four lawmakers was null, void and of no effect.
The court also recognised Martin Amaewhule as the speaker of the state assembly.
