The Nigerian Army on Wednesday laid to rest Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other soldiers killed in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State.
The fallen officers and troops were buried with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, in a ceremony marked by solemn reflection and national grief.
They lost their lives on April 9 when suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters carried out coordinated assaults on military positions in Benisheikh, a key town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, the Army described the ceremony as deeply emotional.
“In a solemn and emotionally charged ceremony, the nation on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, laid to rest late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.
“The burial, held at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State, was marked by deep sorrow, honour, and reflection,” the statement read.
The Army noted that the fallen soldiers were accorded full military honours in recognition of their courage and sacrifice.
“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity, and security of Nigeria,” it added.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, and other top military officials attended the burial, describing the deceased as patriots who gave their lives in service to the nation.
Prayers were offered for the departed, while citations of their service were read to grieving families.
The Army said the sorrow of the bereaved families highlights the human cost of Nigeria’s security battle, even as the bravery of the fallen remains a source of national pride.
