Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has reportedly died, according to multiple sources close to his family who spoke to SaharaReporters.
The sources confirmed the development on Monday, although details surrounding the circumstances of his reported death remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
“Uduaghan is no more; he is dead,” one of the sources told SaharaReporters.
The report comes months after Uduaghan’s family dismissed rumours of his death that circulated widely on social media, insisting at the time that the former governor was alive and receiving medical care.
In June, claims that Uduaghan had died spread across Facebook and WhatsApp, sparking concern among residents, political associates and other stakeholders in Delta State.
The reports prompted his media aide, Henry Unini, to publicly refute the claims and reassure the public that the former governor was still alive.
“I can tell you for a fact that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is alive,” Unini said at the time.
Expressing displeasure over the circulation of the reports, the aide questioned the basis for the claims and criticised the publication of unverified information about a person’s death.
“Frankly, I don’t know where the writer got his information from. The death of someone is not something you take and write about casually,” he said.
Unini also referenced an incident involving the late Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, who reportedly expressed surprise after hearing an announcement of his own death and questioned why the information had been published without proper verification.
The media aide acknowledged during the June incident that Uduaghan had been experiencing health challenges but maintained that he was receiving medical attention.
“It is now common knowledge that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has been sick, but he is receiving proper medical care,” Unini said.
He further disclosed that the former governor was recuperating, insisting that there was no immediate cause for alarm over his condition.
“There is no cause for alarm whatsoever,” he added.
Unini also thanked friends, well-wishers and residents of Delta State who contacted the family to verify the reports, urging them to continue praying for Uduaghan and his family.
He said further information would be communicated to the public when necessary and warned against spreading unverified claims, describing the earlier death rumour as unwarranted.
“The rumour was uncalled for,” he said.
However, the latest report from sources close to the family has renewed attention on the former governor’s health and condition.
