Immediate past Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC primary, held on Monday, saw Bello defeat two other aspirants — the party’s Diaspora Secretary, Momoh Obaro, and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.
Bello’s victory comes amid days of political tension and intense speculation within APC circles over his participation in the race.
There had been widespread rumours suggesting that the former governor’s screening process may have run into complications, fueling uncertainty about his eligibility for the contest.
However, the outcome of Monday’s exercise appears to have put such concerns to rest, with Bello securing the party’s ticket for the senatorial district.
Party loyalists and supporters reportedly celebrated the outcome across parts of Kogi Central shortly after the results were announced, describing the former governor’s emergence as a major political boost for the APC in the district ahead of the 2027 polls.
The APC is yet to release detailed voting figures from the primary as of the time of filing this report.
