The 2023 governorship candidate of the
Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ogun State, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu has maintained that the Remo Federal Constituency is the party’s stronghold and constituency.
Adebutu said that PDP won 34 wards out of 35 in the last election in the federal constituency, expressing the confidence that the feat will be repeated August 16 during bye – election to fill the vacant seat.
The Remo Federal Constituency became vacant following the death of Deputy Chief Whip, Hon Adewunmi Onanuga, last January, who until her demise was representing the area in the National Assembly.
Speaking at the inauguration of the campaign council and official campaign flag off for the party candidate for the Constituency bye-election, Adebutu said he has no problem with the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that Ogun PDP will support the president’s reelection in 2027.
The former federal lawmaker, however, said he is against bad governance in Ogun State on the watch of governor Dapo Abiodun.
He noted that the Abiodun – led All Progressives Congress(APC) government in the state has lost goodwill due to its poor governance
Adebutu lamented what he termed the disappearance of N82bn pension deductions under APC government, vowing to sustain his opposition against bad governance in the state.
According to him, the party is supporting Tinubu’s reelection to ensure that the bye election is free, fair and credible.
Also speaking, the State Party Chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, said that Ogun State PDP has thrown its weight behind the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027
Tella who unveiled the PDP candidate for the bye – election as Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole, noted that the South West PDP is unanimous in its support for President Tinubu to actualise his re- election aspiration.
He described the President as ‘father of the nation,’ adding that this also informed the propriety of rallying round him so as to retain the reins of power till 2031.
Tella urged the party faithful to come out en mass to participate in the August 16 bye-election, and not succumbed to intimidation or harassment by anybody or group during the electoral process.
“We are not going to submit to any harassment or intimidation on Saturday. The election is a win win for the party. This constituency is our stronghold and this was evident in the outcome of the 2023 election. Our party defeated the seating governor in his ward. They will record defeat as far as this election is concerned,” he said.
Also speaking, the National Vice Chairman, Hon Kamorudeen Ajisafe, before presenting the party’s flag to Oluwole, said the Southwest Zonal Secretariat has momentarily been moved to Ogun State for the purpose of mobilising support the party candidate in the bye-election.
Ajisafe condemned what he described as the “coercive and desperate defection tactics” being employed by the APC, saying such moves cannot cover up the party’s failures.
“No amount of political intimidation or forced defections can distract Nigerians from the reality of APC’s abysmal performance,” he said.
