Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the tragic road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, which occurred in Makun – Ogun State corridor of Lagos – Ibadan expressway on Monday.
The accident, which claimed the lives of two foreign nationals, occurred when the Sports Utility Vehicle(SUV) conveying Anthony Joshua rammed into a stationary truck.
In his reaction, Atiku expressed sympathy and support for the boxer, saying he is a symbol national strength and resilience, even as he described the development as deeply saddening.
Atiku made this known in a post shared on his verified X handle.
The former vice president wrote, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the road accident involving @anthonyjoshua today in Makun, Ogun State. I stand in full solidarity with him during this difficult moment and pray for his swift and complete recovery.
“Anthony remains a symbol of strength and resilience, and I have no doubt he will come through this with grace.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the families and loved ones of the two individuals who tragically lost their lives in the accident.
“May their souls rest in peace, and may their families find comfort and strength in this time of sorrow.”
Also, Senator representing Ogun East in the 10th Senate, Senator Gbenga Daniel,
received with deep sadness the report of the tragic road accident involving Sagamu-born world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and others on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Daniel in a statement he personally signed, said he was particularly pained by the unfortunate incident and prayed for the speedy and full recovery of Anthony Joshua and the other occupant who sustained injuries.
“I am particularly pained by the loss of two lives in the unfortunate incident. On behalf of the people of Ogun East Senatorial District, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. May God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“I also pray for the speedy and full recovery of Anthony Joshua and the other occupant who sustained injuries.
“This sad occurrence once again highlights the need for greater caution by motorists and sustained efforts by relevant authorities to improve safety on our highways.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.” Daniel stated.
