The driver of the Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle(SUV) in the tragic accident involving World Heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, has been arraigned by the police before a Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The driver identified as Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was earlier arrested by the police shortly after he was discharged from a Lagos – based private hospital December 31, 2025 where he received medical care following the fatal accident that claimed the lives of two foreign associates of Anthony.
Mobolaji Kayode was however granted bail in the sum of ₦5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) with two sureties in like sum and subsequently remanded in prison pending when he meets his bail conditions while the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026 for trial.
The traffic accident that led to his arrest and subsequent arraignment on Tuesday, January 2, 2026 occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025 around 11.30am along Makun corridor of Lagos – Ibadan expressway when the driver rammed the SUV into a stationary truck, killing the two foreigners on the spot and wrecking a significant portion of the SUV.
Giving a very brief update on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the police have charged the driver to a Magistrate Court and the case adjourned till January 20 for trial.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026,” he stated.
