The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, has been named a recipient of the Distinguished Public Service Award in Grassroots Development, in recognition of his contributions to community growth and effective local governance.
The honour, announced by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under the Presidency, forms part of activities marking the 2026 United Nations Public Service Day, a global initiative celebrating excellence and innovation in public administration.
According to a letter signed by the Director-General of the BPSR, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo earned the recognition through a merit-based selection process involving stakeholder nominations and an independent assessment of performance indicators.
The statement noted that he emerged from a highly competitive pool of local government chairmen across his geopolitical zone following a review of his administration’s impact on grassroots development and service delivery.
The award presentation is scheduled for June 23, 2026, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, during the Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series and Awards ceremony, which will feature a lecture session and gala dinner.
The recognition highlights Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo’s commitment to infrastructural development, people-oriented policies, and improved welfare for residents of Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The award also places him among a select group of public officials recognised for exceptional dedication to grassroots governance and sustainable community development.
Observers say the honour reflects the growing impact of his administration and reinforces confidence in local government as a key driver of development at the community level.
