Popular gospel musician Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa Asu, revealing that the union actually concluded a year ago.
In an official statement released on Thursday morning, August 20, 2026, the artiste said he deliberately delayed going public to allow both parties time for reflection and healing.
“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end,” Ekiye stated.
The singer described the decision as difficult but necessary, noting that not every significant chapter lasts forever.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season,” he said.
Ekiye clarified that the separation occurred in 2025, but he waited 12 months before making it public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he explained.
The Bayelsa-born gospel star, known for soulful worship songs like _Na You Be God_ and _I Worship You_, has been a prominent voice in Nigeria’s gospel music scene for over three decades.
As of press time, Kunemofa Asu has not issued a separate public statement.
Fans and colleagues have since taken to social media to express support for the artiste, urging privacy and respect for both parties during the transition.
