The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has ran to the court, seeking protection from his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to avoid a looming removal from office.
In a motion on notice brought before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Shuaib is praying for an interlocutory injunction stopping the respondents or their agents from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing or preventing him from carrying out the functions of his office as Deputy Governor of Edo State, including attending State Executive Council meetings and other functions pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The Daily Crucible reports that the relationship between Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu dipped with the alleged dehumanisation and humiliation of the latter by the former.
The relationship, it was gathered further, ruptured after Shaibu was seen in a viral video with Senator Adams Oshiomhole during inauguration of the National Assembly in Abuja.
Since then Obaseki, it was learnt, began to undermine the deputy governor and shut him out from any meeting.
However, the court papers listed the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, Speaker Edo House of Assembly and the Chief Judge of Edo State as respondents.
Although, The Daily Crucible gathered that a former deputy governor, Mike Ogiadomhe, and a former chief judge had waded into the rift between Obaseki and Shuaib by summoning them to broker peace.
