Six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), lost their lives in a devastating road accident involving a military gun truck and a commercial bus in Adamawa State.
The tragic crash occurred on Wednesday at the Narehi area of Girei Local Government Area along the Girei–Song Road, according to the Adamawa State Police Command.
Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said the accident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to somersault and burst into flames.
“All five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision,” Nguroje said.
The police confirmed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State. Two of them were identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims.
A military personnel attached to the gun truck also died in the accident.
The remains of the deceased have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola as authorities work to identify the victims and contact their families.
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC, and all those affected by the tragedy.
