A 46-year-old Ondo State businessman, Kayode Akinbolusere, popularly known as Tolufe, has died in a suspected suicide, leaving behind an emotional video in which he recalled his humble beginnings and paid tribute to his wife for standing by him when he had nothing.
Akinbolusere reportedly died in his office at Igba Town, Ondo State, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance.
Before his death, the businessman recorded a video in which he declared that nobody pressured him into his decision, spoke about his business challenges and outlined how his properties should be shared among his wife, Esther, and their three children, who are reportedly based in Canada.
In the video, which has circulated on social media, Akinbolusere recalled how he built his business from scratch, describing himself as someone who had worked hard to achieve his success.
He also spoke about an unexpected setback at work, saying two machines he depended on for his business had developed faults.
Recalling his difficult beginnings as a barber, he praised his wife for supporting him through years of struggle.
“My wife stood by me when I had nothing and never for once wronged me. She was very supportive when I had nothing, especially when I was working as a barber. I was the one who destroyed everything with carelessness,” he said.
He subsequently stated that he was leaving his properties to his wife and their three children.
Sources said the businessman had contacted some close friends before the incident and later uploaded the video on social media.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Ondo State Police Command said it had commenced an investigation into the suspected suicide.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident was reported by members of the public, following which operatives attached to the Bolorunduro Division visited the deceased’s office beside BOVAS Petrol Station in Igba Town.
According to the police, two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide were recovered from a nearby bush.
The command said preliminary findings also indicated that the deceased had recorded a video before his death, in which he reportedly spoke about his personal struggles.
His remains were evacuated to the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and further examination.
The police added that no visible marks of violence were observed on his body at the time of examination.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command urged members of the public to refrain from speculation and encouraged people experiencing emotional distress or personal difficulties to seek support.
