Operatives of the Anti-Cyber Crime and Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service have arrested five Nigerian nationals over alleged involvement in cybercrime and human trafficking, while rescuing 22 young Nigerians who were allegedly forced into internet fraud.
The suspects, identified as Chigozie Azubuike, Edwin Onyema, Henry Egbuike, Harrison Godwin and Nwachukwu, were arrested on July 16, 2026, following intelligence gathered on July 12 about the activities of the criminal syndicate.
During the operation, security operatives recovered 52 mobile phones and other wireless communication devices believed to have been used in carrying out cybercrime activities.
The breakthrough came after officers raided the gang’s hideout and forced open a locked single-room apartment, where they found 22 Nigerian victims aged between 15 and 24.
Investigators said the victims were believed to have been trafficked and confined in the room by the gang, whose self-styled chairman allegedly compelled them to engage in cybercrime operations.
The rescued victims have been taken into protective custody, while investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the trafficking and cybercrime network and identify other members of the syndicate.
The Ghana Police Service is expected to arraign the five suspects in court after the conclusion of investigations.
