Prominent Yoruba businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose, has reaffirmed his support for the 2027 presidential ambition of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi, less than 24 hours after threatening to dump the former Anambra State governor and campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose’s renewed commitment followed a meeting with Obi, effectively calming speculation that he was on the verge of switching allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He reiterated his “100% support for Obi,” even as he declared him as “the incoming President,” urging others to declare for the NDC presidential candidate.
The development was disclosed in a trending video circulated on Saturday.
His latest position comes on the heels of a public outburst against members of the Obidient movement who had attacked him on social media for sharing a photograph of himself with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Tinubu.
In the Instagram post, Fayose described Seyi as “a good man,” offered prayers for both him and his father, but insisted that his political support remained with Obi.
The post, however, sparked criticism from some Obidients, who accused him of fraternising with the Tinubu family despite his long-standing backing for the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
Responding in a video shared on his Instagram page, Fayose dismissed the criticism, insisting that meeting Seyi Tinubu did not amount to abandoning his political convictions.
“If una wan die because I met Seyi, make una die,” he declared in Pidgin English.
He praised Seyi Tinubu for his humility, saying the president’s son removed his cap and knelt to greet him as a mark of respect.
Fayose also lamented what he described as a lack of appreciation from Peter Obi and members of the Obidient movement despite his financial and logistical support during the 2023 presidential election.
He recalled making his Ibadan-based hotel available to Obi’s supporters during the campaign but claimed neither Obi nor the movement acknowledged the gesture or expressed gratitude.
Questioning the attacks against him, he said: “Do you know how much I spent on the last election? Do you know how much I spent on your Obi? I even gave you people my hotel. I even came to the protest.
“Seyi is a good boy. He removed his cap and appreciated me. Has Obi come to greet me since I started campaigning? Has Obi come to say thank you? Did you people send me the work?
“You people are not even worth it. You are there waiting for my own people to liberate you when you can liberate yourselves.
“I am a Yoruba man. I love Tinubu with all my heart and I love Seyi Tinubu. He is a good guy.
“If I like, I will start campaigning for Tinubu because you guys are not even worth it.
“I spent quality time with Seyi Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest and the rest of us last night. We discussed politics, we discussed everything discussable. When I was leaving, Seyi said, ‘Uncle Isaac, let me walk you to your car.’
“That doesn’t mean I’m in APC. I’m still 101 per cent Obidient. Tinubu’s family are my family. I love Tinubu, but I told them we’re still going to win them. This is politics without hate.”
However, in the latest twist, Fayose has now publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Obi’s 2027 presidential bid after meeting the former Anambra State governor, signalling that his earlier threat to campaign for Tinubu was driven by frustration over the backlash he received from some Obidients rather than a genuine defection.
The development has generated fresh reactions on social media, with supporters welcoming his renewed endorsement of Obi, while others continue to debate whether political loyalty should preclude cordial relationships across party lines.
