The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of an abducted woman, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a coordinated operation in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the victims were rescued unharmed at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
Mrs. Adegoke and her children were abducted on June 3, 2026, while she was reportedly driving the twins to school at about 7:30 a.m. in Ibadan.
The police authorities noted that sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations enabled investigators to track the movements of the kidnappers, leading to a confrontation with the operatives.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while two rifles were recovered from the scene. The rescued victims were immediately taken into safe custody, where they are currently receiving medical attention and psychological support.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the bravery, professionalism, and resilience of the FID-IRT operatives and other officers involved in the mission, describing their efforts as instrumental to the safe rescue of the hostages.
The police also disclosed that security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the suspects escaped with gunshot injuries.
Authorities assured the public that ongoing operations are underway to track down and bring all those connected to the abduction to justice.
