A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ogun State, Chief Sunday Sowunmi, has blamed mischief makers for the persisting “Governor Dapo Abiodun isn’t in support of YAYI” simmering rumour in the state.
Yayi whose real name is Solomon Olamilekan Adeola is the Aremo of Yewaland and chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations. He represents Ogunwest in the 10th Senate and is generally believed to have ambition to contest 2027 governorship election in Ogun state on the platform of the APC. Though, the Senator is yet to make his intention on the subject known publicly.
But the underground rumour making the rounds in the Gateway State is that Governor Abiodun from Ogun East is not favourably disposed towards YAYI succeeding him even though he aligns with the popular expectation this time that power must shift to the Ogunwest in 2027.
Abiodun is said to be secretly plotting to have another lawmaker, albeit, from the same Ogunwest as Yayi to emerge possibly as first Governor from the zone.
However, speaking in an interview with reporters on Tuesday during party ward meeting in Ijemo, Abeokuta, Sowunmi who is the APC Senatorial Chairman for Ogun Central Senatorial District, said Governor Abiodun is fully in support of the governorship ambition of YAYI.
He said that Governor Abiodun has not told anyone not to support Yayi’s governorship ambition in 2027, stressing that whoever said that Abiodun is not in support of the Aremo of Yewaland is a “rumour- monger.”
Chief Sowunmi said, “it is very obvious that our amiable Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun is fully in support of Senator Yayi, people may be saying different things, just see them as rumour- mongers, our amiable Governor is in support of Senator Yayi and he has not told anyone not to support him, I am very sure he is in support of Yayi. I don’t know why people are saying our amiable Governor has his own candidate, they just want to castigate him, let them come out and say that Governor Abiodun told them not to support Yayi. Gov. Abiodun is a man of the people and he is operating an inclusive government and that is why APC in Ogun State is becoming stronger.
“Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi has been endorsed and accepted by everyone in Ogun State because of his unprecedented achievements in the State. Yayi has performed beyond the expectations of the people of the State, he has also extended his strides to other Senatorial Districts. He deserves to be the Governor, he is doing well, people should support him” Showunmi concluded
Chief Sowunmi while speaking on Egba agenda said Yewaland should be given the opportunity to rule, saying that what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
“There is nothing bad if Ogun West produces Governor, in the history of Ogun State, Ogun wast has not produced a Governor so there is nothing bad giving them their right because we are all eqaul, we are citizens of Ogun State and Ogun State is for everyone of us. I am appealing to our people concerning the Egba Agenda to rethink, let’s allow Ogun West to rule this time, it is their turn.”
