An online poll conducted by the Tinubu Must Go (TMG) movement has placed former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar ahead of other opposition contenders in a survey on preferred candidates for the 2027 presidential election.
The poll, promoted by TMG activist Abba Hikima, asked Nigerians online to indicate which of the leading opposition presidential contenders they would vote for in 2027.
According to a statement issued by the movement, the 24-hour poll, conducted between September 24 and 25, attracted 109,799 respondents.
The statement said 80,809 participants, representing 73.6 per cent of the total responses, backed the Atiku Abubakar–Rotimi Amaechi ticket.
A further 24,519 respondents, or 22.3 per cent, selected the Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket, while 4,471 respondents, representing 4.1 per cent, opted for other candidates.
The organisers said the poll recorded a strong lead for the Atiku-Amaechi ticket shortly after voting opened.
“Approximately seven minutes after voting commenced, the figures stood at about 76.6 per cent in support of the Atiku/Amaechi ticket and 20.9 per cent for Obi/Kwankwaso,” the statement said.
The organisers added that the figures remained relatively stable as participation increased.
“As participation expanded dramatically, the percentages settled and remained remarkably consistent,” the statement said.
The TMG movement said it would release a more detailed report on the exercise, covering its methodology, growth in participation, timestamp analysis, reach, limitations and organisational significance.
Online polls and surveys have increasingly featured in discussions around the 2027 presidential race, with various groups and organisations conducting exercises to gauge public sentiment ahead of the election.
However, the TMG exercise was an online poll conducted by the movement itself, and its results should be distinguished from scientifically sampled opinion polls designed to represent the broader Nigerian electorate.
The 2027 presidential contest is expected to attract several candidates and political alignments as opposition parties and political groups continue efforts to challenge President Bola Tinubu.
