Former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, has removed the veil of speculations over the 2027 presidential ambition of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and gave it a force of certainty with a declaration that the former President will join the race as a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Gana, a founding member of the opposition PDP maintained that Jonathan’s return to Aso Rock he left in 2015 is not just a dream but a concrete plan.
The elder statesman revealed this during the Niger State PDP congress at the weekend, saying Nigerians are clamouring for Jonathan’s return.
Gana said, “In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. Since then, we’ve had another President for eight years and now another for two years.
“Nigerians have seen the difference, and they are asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan. I can confirm that he will contest in 2027 as PDP’s candidate.”
Meanwhile, at the congress, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu was elected PDP chairman with 1,289 votes after defeating Yahaya Abdullahi, who polled 1,260 votes. Other winners included Hadi Kuta as state secretary and Salome Ndakosu as woman leader, who scored 1,373 votes against Ramotu Jibrin’s 590.
Declaring the results, Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, Tanimu Turaki, declared the results, said that eight positions were contested while others were filled unopposed.
Halidu preached unity among party members, harping on the need for members to work collectively to wrest power in 2027, starting with the November local government elections.
