The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abeokuta South State Constituency II in the forthcoming 2027 Ogun State House of Assembly election, Adeoye Adewale Adeniran, popularly known as A3, has urged the people of Ogun State not to dismiss the recent allegations made by the PDP candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, against the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
In his statement while addressing members of the PDP in ward 14, Onikolobo, Adeoye said the significance of Professor Obasanjo’s remarks lies not merely in political disagreement but in her credibility, pedigree and record of public service.
He described the former senator as a respected daughter of Ogun State whose reputation has been built on integrity, competence and frankness.
According to Adeoye, Senator Obasanjo’s public assertion that Senator Adeola “lacks integrity” and “breaks trust” should not be dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric but treated as a serious concern raised by someone who had firsthand political dealings with him.
He also argued that the allegations should be viewed alongside the controversies surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget, where several civil society organisations, policy analysts and opposition voices questioned alleged budget padding, off-mandate projects, duplication of allocations and constituency projects inserted into agencies outside their statutory responsibilities.
Adeoye noted that as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Adeola occupied one of the most influential positions in the National Assembly during the preparation and passage of the budget.
“Whether every allegation is ultimately proven or not, the Appropriations Committee bears enormous responsibility for ensuring transparency, fiscal discipline and accountability in the budgeting process. Nigerians deserve answers whenever questions are raised about the integrity of the nation’s budget,” he said.
He added that the widespread concerns over the budget process, combined with Senator Obasanjo’s comments on trust and integrity, present issues that voters should carefully evaluate as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
“The people of Ogun must pay close attention when an experienced public servant like Senator Iyabo Obasanjo raises concerns about character and integrity. These are not issues that should be dismissed with kid gloves or viewed as mere campaign exchanges. Leadership begins with character and integrity remains the foundation upon which public trust is built,” Adeoye stated.
The PDP candidate described Obasanjo as a true indigene of Ogun State who had served with distinction as Commissioner for Health and later as Senator representing Ogun Central, adding that her decades of public service give considerable weight to her views on leadership.
He stressed that the 2027 governorship election should not be decided solely by political popularity or financial influence but by credibility, honesty, competence and commitment to public service.
According to Adeoye, “we cannot continue to recycle people who are causing our pains. Ogun people deserve leaders whose promises can be trusted and whose records demonstrate consistency and accountability”.
A3 said the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, has consistently demonstrated compassion and commitment to the welfare of the people through numerous humanitarian interventions and community development initiatives, adding that the party is presenting candidates whose integrity and service records can be independently verified.
Speaking on his own agenda for Abeokuta South State Constituency II, Adeoye pledged to champion legislation and oversight that would directly improve the lives of residents.
He said that, working with a PDP-led administration under Chief Adebutu, he would support policies aimed at ensuring local government councils receive and utilise their statutory allocations transparently to accelerate grassroots development.
According to him, priority would also be given to expanding electricity supply through alternative energy solutions, improving road infrastructure, strengthening primary healthcare centres, enhancing public schools, supporting youth employment and entrepreneurship, promoting women’s economic empowerment, improving security through community-based initiatives and ensuring prudent management of public resources.
He further pledged to advocate for laws that encourage investment, protect small businesses, improve the welfare of civil servants and pensioners and strengthen transparency and accountability in government.
“My commitment is to represent the people with honesty, accessibility and courage. The House of Assembly must be a place where laws are made to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, not to serve the interests of a privileged few,” Adeoye said.
He urged voters across Abeokuta South Local Government Area and Ogun State as a whole to carefully examine the character, credibility and integrity of everyone seeking public office before casting their votes.
“Elections offer citizens the opportunity to choose leaders whose conduct reflects honesty, transparency and accountability. These set of people can not change overnight, when they give you money now and you vote them, we all would pay dearly for our mistakes. Ogun State deserves leadership founded on trust, competence and genuine service to the people. Character matters and integrity should never be compromised in the choice of those who will determine our collective future,” he concluded.
