The Ogun State chapter of Accord has distanced itself from claims linking Otunba Dr. Babatunde Olushola Senbanjo to its 2027 governorship ticket, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the party’s State Chairman, Oke Rotimi Michael, said Senbanjo is not a member of the party and has no constitutional or political basis to present himself as its governorship candidate.
The party said it became aware of a publication circulating on social media and other platforms introducing Senbanjo as ACCORD’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Reacting to the development, the party dismissed the claim, insisting it was made without the knowledge or approval of its leadership.
According to the statement, “Otunba Dr. Babatunde Olushola Senbanjo is neither a member of ACCORD nor known to any organ of the party in Ogun State. Thus, he does not have the legitimacy, constitutionally and politically, to position himself as a potential or would-be governorship candidate of our dear party.”
The party said it views the alleged attempt to associate Senbanjo with ACCORD as an act of misrepresentation capable of misleading the public and creating unnecessary confusion in the state’s political landscape.
ACCORD maintained that its recognised governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Ogun State is Agbongboakala Olaniyi Okewole.
The party warned Senbanjo and anyone acting on his behalf to stop presenting him as its candidate, stressing that it would pursue all legal avenues if the alleged impersonation continues.
It also urged residents, political stakeholders and media organisations to disregard the publication and verify information relating to the party through its official leadership or the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Ogun State before publication.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the party said it would continue to uphold constitutional governance, internal discipline and people-oriented leadership as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
