LAGOS: The remains of the Nigeria’s elegant Stallion, legendary songstress, music icon and producer, Onyeka Onwenu, were laid to rest on Friday in Lagos.
Onwenu, an accomplished figure in the the nation’s entertainment industry died on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72.
She breathed her last at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja where he was taken to after she collapsed during an organised event in honour of the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Stella Okoli.
The Daily Crucible reports that service of songs was earlier held in her honour at the Fountain of Life Church Ilupeju, Lagos which had in attendance prominent Nigerians, including Abia State Governor, Alex Otto and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential elections, Mr Peter Obi.
The “Dancing in the Sun” crooner was later interred at the Ebony Vaults, James George Street, Off Alagbon Close in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The late singer’s family members, friends and clergymen were at the gravesite to pay their last respect as her corpse was lowered into the grave.
Her two sons – Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, described their mother as a “national treasure, an icon and legend,” whose impact will be deeply felt.
