Further investigation by detectives from the Ogun State Police Command has shed more light on how a suspected serial ritual múrderer, Adebayo Olamide Azeez, and his gang made no fewer than seven ladies victims of their heinous crime.
Part of the clues that gave Adedayo Azeez and his gang away after múrdering Suleimon Adijat was a bag which was shown on television which later turned out to be a female bag belonging to one Olanrewaju Sarah Abosede who had been deemed missing.
The arrest of Azeez happened after his gang members, including Moses Abidemi Awuraji, Oluwo Samuel Monday, Peter Oluwalolese, Jamiu Yusuf, Akinwunmi Ifatosin, Sheriff Agbai, and Osojieahen Alioneitouria were apprehended by operatives of the State Command.
All were accused of the being involved in the ritual kíllîng a 35-year-old Sulaimon Adijat through the ‘hookup’ app.
The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, who paraded Azeez and others disclosed that the Azeez had been evading arrest, but captured on February 23 from his hideout.
Alamutu disclosed the evil partnership between Azeez and Awuraji, a herbalist, in putting the victims to death, adding that their dismembered body parts were then allegedly sold to Oluwo Monday Samuel and Alfa Ariwo (still at large) for ritualistic purposes.
He said, “The three suspects confessed to the killing of ten different ladies at the Igbo Olomi residence of Moses Abidemi.
“I am glad to once again welcome you to yet another press briefing in a couple of three weeks to update you on the latest development on the investigation into the killing of one Suleimon Adijat ‘f’ who was initially reported missing at Onipanu Division, Ogun State. It is heartwarming to inform you and the general public of the arrest of the main actor in the episode, one Adebayo Olamide Azeez ‘m’ and another principal suspect one Maria Awuraji ‘f’. On 23rd February, 2024, one Adebayo Olamide Azeez ‘m’ who was earlier at large was arrested through credible information on his criminal hideout. The suspect made a startling revelation of their serial killings of mainly female victims whose main source is through hook-up platform “Mychat” on the social media. He confessed to have lured seven victims from September, 2023 to 11th January, 2024 among whom was Sulaimon Adijat ‘f’ who triggered the investigation.
“Sequel to the press briefing held on 15th February, 2024 where 10 female bags recovered from the shrine of one of the previously arrested suspects Moses Abidemi Aruwaji ‘m’ were showcased, a relative of one of the deceased on 23rd February, 2024 came to the State CID Eleweran Abeokuta, after watching the press briefing on the television to identify a bag belonging to her sister one Olanrewaju Sarah Abosede who has been missing.
“The suspect identified the owner as among those they murdered.
The suspect Adebayo Olamide Azeez confessed and gave vivid details of how he conspired with one Moses Abidemi Awuraji ‘m’ and Maria Awuraji ‘f’ wife of Abidemi Moses to kill one Sulaimon Adjat ‘f’ and Olanrewaju Sarah Abosede ‘f’ at the house of Moses Abidemi Awuraji at Igbo Olomi Atan, Ogun State. The suspects strangulated their victim to death and dismembered their body parts and sold to Oluwo Monday Samuel ‘m’ and Alfa Ariwo ‘m’ (who is still at large) for ritual purposes.
“The three suspects confessed to the killing of ten different ladies at the Igbo Olomi residence of Moses Abidemi. However, Mariam Aruwaji was arrested with one blue Tecno Camon phone belonging to the late Olanwaju Sarah Abosede ‘f’.”
Alamutu urged those with missing relatives to report to the police with photographs for assistance, assuring that adequate and thorough investigation would be done on every case reported.
“The shocking revelations from Azeez’s confession have sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and awareness regarding online interactions.”
“Authorities are working tirelessly to bring justice to the victims and their families while dismantling the ritualist gang responsible for these horrifying crimes,” Alamutu added.
Narrating how he lured victims to his den, Azeez said, “I got the ladies from MyChat, a hookup app. When contacted by Awuraji, I’d negotiate with the victims on the app, finalise the deal, and provide my address in Atan-Ota.
“I would pick them up, and transport them to Awuraji’s house, where we executed the heinous act.
“I do not know the ultimate purpose of the group; my role was merely to source victims through ‘hookup’ and collect payment.”
“Abidemi’s wife (Awuraji Mariam) will pin their legs down while I strangle them. I joined the gang in September 2023, and we have killed seven ladies. These were the ladies that I brought to the house that we killed.
“I don’t know what they use the corpses of the ladies for. My job is just to scout for the ladies from the ‘hookup’ app and bring them in. They don’t usually tell me the amount they will give; at times, they pay me N30,000; other times, they give me N40,000.
“I can’t say no to them whenever they ask me to bring the ladies. I don’t know who they sell the body parts to, and I don’t ask them about it.”
While assuring the public that investigations were ongoing to identify other potential victims, Alamutu urged those with missing relatives to report to the police with photographs for assistance.
